California born and raised, Taylor Spivey has never strayed far from the beaches of the Golden State. She grew up in Manhattan Beach and spent her summers in the LA County Junior Lifeguard Program. A natural in the water, she quickly developed a love for competition through open water racing. Her “Baywatch” lifestyle evolved and petite Taylor enjoyed racing alongside the big boys in Lifeguard rookie school and beyond. As an LA County Lifeguard she earned the coveted Most Outstanding Rookie award and then went on to win many National Surf Lifesaving Titles.
Her love for the ocean sparked a decision to join the Cal Poly SLO D1 swim team while maintaining a primary focus on academics. Throughout college, she spent countless late nights in the design studio followed by early mornings in the pool. Passion and perseverance led to recognition as she was acknowledged as an All Academic Athlete and earning an honors Bachelors of Architecture degree.
However, her fire for athletics continued to burn beyond collegiate swimming. After dabbling in triathlon during her senior year, and winning the USAT Collegiate National Championships, she made the decision to postpone her design career and pursue triathlon as a professional. Since then, Taylor’s “path less traveled by” has earned her a spot on the USA Triathlon National Team, and in 2016 she nearly halved her world ranking.
Currently, Taylor trains in Poway, San Diego, with The Triathlon Squad. Here she continues to tackle triathlon as she has done with her other successful pursuits. This means striving to be the best version of herself both in and out of the sport, and to inspire others along the way.
